Situating Regional Integration in the Discourse of Development Strategies: Perspectives on the Legal Reform
In this dissertation I intend to explore the relationship between norms adopted in the framework of implementing development and legal reform programs, and the preparation of the Southeast European countries for membership in the European Union. My thesis is that development strategies should factor in the dynamics of the relationship between countries and regional organizations, and consequently in order to conceptualize a development program for a country or group of countries one needs to analyze the nature of that relationship and how it will affect development. My assumption is that these dynamics could have a determinant role in the political outcomes regarding the stability of democratic institutions, rule of law and economic development for the concerned countries, and therefore they are necessary in preparing development strategies.
