Domestic Violence Law Reform in Colombia and the U.S.
In my disertation I compare domestic violence law reform and implementation in Colombia and in the United States. While in both cases women's groups led the reform process, with similar goals, the actual result of their efforts as well as subsequent reforms and implementation of the laws has been shaped by the different political-legal fields in each country, especially by different ideas of what the law is and what it is for; the size and power of the state; the participation of civil society/ social movements in law reform. In my dissertation I explore these differences through historical and qualitative research.
