Minority Rights and Conflict Prevention - Organized in collaboration with the Rockefeller Foundation and the International Center for Ethnic Studies (Sri Lanka), this roundtable meeting in Bellagio, Italy, brought together scholars, practitioners, and advocates from the fields of active conflict resolution, human rights, and academia to explore the interconnection of norms, institutions and processes where ethnic and religious identity is a major element in a conflict. It explored the role of human rights in the theory and practice of conflict resolution.
Religion and State - This roundtable brought together lawyers, scholars, and specialists in religion from Europe, the Middle East, and the United States to reflect on issues such as separation of church and state, and establishment of religion in light of international norms and cultural differences. The University and Human Rights - Organized by the Human Rights Program in conjunction with its 15th anniversary, this roundtable brought together academics from the United States, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa, all of whom teach in human rights. The participants reflected on the place of human rights in the university and the role of the university in the human rights movement.
International Aspects of the Arab Human Rights Movement - An interdisciplinary discussion held in Cairo, this roundtable was co-sponsored with the Cairo University Center for the Study of Developing Countries. Participants examined international aspects of the Arab human rights movement.
Business and Human Rights - This roundtable discussion, co-sponsored by the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights, focused on the impact of business on human rights, and in particular, the role of multinational enterprises in developing countries.
Human Rights at Harvard - This symposium held at Harvard University focused on two subtopics: "Universalism and Cultural Relativism: Perspectives on the Human Rights Debate," and "Remembering and Forgetting Gross Violations of Human Rights."
Human Rights at Harvard - Another symposium at Harvard, this conference focused on four subtopics: "International Human Rights and the University"; "The United States and Global Human Rights"; "Population Policies and Human Rights"; and "Discrimination: Comparisons among Gender, Race, and Sexual Orientation."
Truth Commissions: A Comparative Assessment - This interdisciplinary discussion, held at Harvard Law School, was co-sponsored by the World Peace Foundation.
Economic and Social Rights and the Right to Health - This roundtable was co-sponsored by the François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights. Participants discussed international public health, and its connectedness to economic and social rights.
