Mapping or Mounting Your Faculty Share (S:\)

S: (Faculty Share) mapping – Please use the following steps to map your S: drive:

1. Right-click on the My Computer icon and select Map Network Drive…
2. Select S: for the Drive letter.

3. Note: if you have the old S: drive location mapped to the S: drive, you will need to disconnect it. Click here for instructions on disconnecting network drives. Also, if you have a fixed drive such as a DVD or a 2nd hard drive mapped to S:, simply choose another drive letter.

4. Enter \\HLSFac.law.harvard.edu\Faculty\<FacultyUsername>_shared in the Folder field

   Note: <FacultyUsername> is the username of the faculty member who owns the share.  Example:  \\HLSFac.law.harvard.edu\Faculty\jharvard_shared

5. Reconnect at logon – Select this option if you want this drive to be mapped each time you boot your computer.

   Note: you will not have access to this drive until you connect via Harvard's VPN.

6. Click Connect using a different user name

6. On the Connect As windows:
   • User name: enter HLS\<username>
     • <username> should be replaced with your Harvard Law School username (this is what you would use when you initially log on to your computer)
   • Password:  enter your password
     • This is the password you use when you initially log on to your computer

   
   

7. Click OK and Finish. The mapped network drive will open.

   Note:  Once mapped, you can also access the share if you double-click on the My Computer icon.

 Macintosh Operating System

S: (Faculty Shared Drive) mounting – Please use the following steps to map to your H: drive:

1. On the Apple menu, click Go > Connect to server
2. In the Server Address field, enter the following information:

cifs://HLSFac.law.harvard.edu/<FacultyUsername>_Shared

Note: the <FacultyUsername> is the username of the faculty member who owns the share.  Example:  cifs://HLSFac.law.harvard.edu/jharvard_shared

3. Click the + button to add this server address to the list of your favorite servers.

   Note: If you have the old home server address, cifs://140.247.200.162/<FacultyUsername>_Shared or cifs://hlsnas1a.law.harvard.edu/<FacultyUsername>_Shared, listed in your favorites, select it, and click Remove.

4. Click Connect
5. Enter your domain username and password:
   • Workgroup or Domain:  HLS
   • Username: (this is the Harvard Law School domain username)
   • Password: (this is the Harvard Law School domain password)

7. The window for your Home Drive will open

    Note: A mounted network drive will appear on the desktop
