Policy Excerpt
There must be a mechanism to time out a user’s access to applications that deal with confidential information.
In accordance with this policy applications at HLS have automatic time outs. These times vary by application and physical environment, but can be as little as 10 minutes and as long as 1 hour.
In addition to these application time outs HLS ITS strongly recommends setting your computer to use a password protected screen saver after 10 minutes of inactivity.
Q: How do a set a password protected screen saver?
A: ITS recommends you set you password protected screen save for 15 Minutes.
Step1: Right-click an empty area of your desktop and click on "Properties".
Step2: Click on the Screen Saver tab. Make sure you have a screensaver selected.
Step3: Place a checkmark next to "On resume, password protect."
Step4: In the ‘resume’ box set the time to 15 minutes.
Step5: Click OK.
Your screen saver will now start after 15 minutes and require you to re-enter your password to access your computer.
