Office 2007/2008 and Vista were released at the end of January 2007. After an initial round of testing, ITS (along with other IT organizations across Harvard) have decided to postpone the roll out and support of these products to Faculty, Staff, and other Harvard owned assets. Microsoft Windows 7 was released October 2009. ITS is in the process of testing all services in anticipation of roll out to the environment at large of both Windows 7 and Office 2007/2008. At this time student's are the only approved users of Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007/2008.
The Students, whose computers are personally owned and therefore subject to personal preference, may purchase and install Microsoft Vista or Microsoft Windows 7. However, please be aware of the following compliancy list of ITS provided services:
Compliant with Microsoft Vista* and supported at the student help desk:
*None of these products have completed testing with Microsoft Windows 7 at this time. Support will be limited through the student help desk.
The faculty and staff of Harvard Law School will not be moving to Office 2007 before the start of the 2008/09 academic year. This means that any student that chooses to use Office 2007 MUST save all files that will be submitted in Office 2003 compatible format (*.doc, *.xls, *.ppt, *.mdb, *.pst).
ITS will provide a free copy of Office 2003 to each law student to help alleviate the compliancy issues. Please click here for more information: Office 2003 Information
