Harkness Commons and Pound Hall Temporary Food Services
To bring infrastructure enhancements to Harkness Commons and the surrounding area, the Hark will be closed at 3 pm on April 18th, and will remain closed through the summer. During this period, Restaurant Associates will operate the Pound Temporary Café out of the Ropes Gray Room in Pound Hall from April 19 to Aug. 25, as well as a temporary station in Lewis from April 19 to May 12. As a result, Ropes Gray, John Chipman Gray and all of Harkness Commons will be unavailable for events this summer.
The Pound café will feature an array of food stations, including a deli, taquería, salad bar, wrap station, soup, hot food, quick picks, dessert/pastries, coffee and other beverages. The café will operate under normal RA hours through May 12, then switch to the summer hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Lewis location will offer quick picks, soup, coffee, dessert and snacks from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Construction fencing will be erected around the Hark on April 21st. This will reduce available outdoor seating space around Kumble Plaza and the Jarvis Field Terrace. Spring barbeques will most likely still be held on Jarvis Field, but an alternate space will be determined and announced if necessary.
Reopening in the fall, the Hark will feature a new servery in the second-floor café, as well as a first-floor connection to the new building. As mentioned above, the renovated café will offer an on-campus pub, an Asian station featuring steamed and stir-fry meal options, a wood-fired oven and brand-new pizza program, and a gelato/coffee bar.
Parking Garage
On April 30th, the pedestrian exit from the 10 Everett Street underground parking garage will be redirected, so that pedestrians exit through the new archway near Pound Hall on Mass Avenue instead. Permit holders will receive more details from Parking Services in advance of this change, and appropriate signs will be posted.
Jarvis Street and Area Surrounding Pound Hall
Beginning April 7th, utility work on Mass Avenue will commence and will last for approximately two weeks. Once completed, the sidewalk on Mass Avenue near Pound Hall will be temporarily detoured similar to the sidewalks in front of the new building in order to ensure safety during construction. This will be in place through July.
Beginning May 2nd, there will no longer be any access to the Pound Hall loading dock and Jarvis Street, Alternative arrangements for HLS deliveries will be made on Mass Avenue and in the Lewis parking lot. We will ensure that deliveries to campus continue to be as unobtrusive as possible. Parking in the Lewis lot will be removed to accommodate this change in logistics.
Commencement
Construction barriers around the Hark will be somewhat condensed so that all of the areas on Kumble Plaza and Jarvis Field Plaza are available for Class Day and Commencement events. We are also arranging for additional tents and portable restroom facilities to compensate for the Hark’s closure. Further information about commencement-related work will follow as we get closer to May, so please stay tuned.
