Forced Marriage: A Story of Bifurcated Values in the United Kingdom

Mon, March 16, 2009
Noon – 1:00 PM
Pound 407
Harvard Law School

CAP Visiting Scholar Mary Welstead (an expert on family law and related issues including property rights, domestic violence, medical treatment consent issues in multi-cultural societies) joins us from the University of Buckingham in England, where she is a visiting Professor in Law.

Prof. Welstead will lead us in an informal conversation about her research on forced marriage in the UK, describing the problem, providing case examples, giving us a background in the relevant case law, and highlighting some potential solutions. CAP Faculty Director Elizabeth Bartholet will help moderate the discussion.

A light lunch (wraps, salad, dessert) will be provided.
