HUGO ADAM BEDAU
Hugo Adam Bedau, Austin Fletcher Professor of Philosophy Emeritus,
Tufts University, is the author/and or editor of several books and
many articles on the death penalty. His first book, The Death Penalty
in America (1964) quickly became the standard reference work on
the subject. Now in its fourth edition (1997), it has remained the
most widely read and cited source of information on capital punishment
in the United States. He is co-author with Michael Radelet and Constance
Putnam of In Spite of Innocence (1992), the first comprehensive
study of miscarriages of justice in capital cases. He has testified
before several Congressional committees and many state Legislatures
on the death penalty and has been active in the anti-death penalty
projects since 1958, working with the ACLU, AI, LDF, and National
Coalition Against the Death Penalty.
