This clinical program examines in depth the phenomenon of gender-motivated violence from many different perspectives. A sampling of possible clinical placements includes:
- Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC): Provides legal advocacy for survivors of sexual assault. Related projects will focus on campus sexual assault and on the prevention of acquaintance rape through the development of a new self-defense program.
- Equality Now: Human rights organization based in New York, Nairobi, and London, focuses on international women's issues such as sex trafficking of women and children.
- Governor's Commission on Sexual and Domestic Violence: Provides the opportunity to work on the creation of a Dangerousness Assessment tool for use in domestic violence cases. This tool will be used in conjunction with a pilot program that will employ GPS electronic monitoring of batterers and the development of a batterer detention facility. This project will involve legislation, legal analysis, strategic lawyering, and work with state agencies.
- The International Program for the Center for Reproductive Rights: projects involve laws and policies on women's reproductive lives throughout the world.
- V-Day: Eve Ensler's nonprofit organization is dedicated to stopping violence against women around the world. Students can provide legal support for projects that may include honor killings, female genital mutilation, the disappearance of women in Juarez, Mexico and other issues.
- Security on Campus (SOC): A national organization dedicated to addressing campus sexual assault. SOC is developing a legal arm and would like to partner in creating a bank of information on the use of Title IX to prevent campus sexual assault. Related to this placement is work on the case against Colorado University and members of its football team for the commission of sexual assaults against female students.
