What We Do

HIRC performs the following types of work:

  • Policy Advocacy and Scholarship - HIRC provides advice, support, and supplemental services to advocates around the United States and published the first major treatise on U.S. asylum law, Law of Asylum in the United States.


  • Recent Cases - HIRC students take the lead in representing clients from all over the world who are seeking protection from being returned to human rights abuses in their country of origin, protection from exile after years of living in the United States, or reunification with their families. 


  • Appellate Work - HIRC has filed amicus briefs on behalf of national and international refugee law scholars on a variety of issues before the U.S. Supreme Court and circuit courts.
