Steve joined the Center in 2004 as a Clinical Instructor focusing on employment civil rights. From 1993 to 2004, Steve worked at a small public interest law firm and then as an associate and partner at Conn Kavanaugh in Boston. He practiced primarily in the areas of employment law and ERISA litigation, handling issues such as wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, reasonable accommodations, unemployment benefits, and wage and hour laws. He has appeared in state and federal court at the trial and appellate level, including numerous trials and five successful arguments before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He has participated in a wide range of administrative hearings, in agencies such as the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, the Division of Unemployment Assistance, and the Merit Systems Protection Board. Steve has served on the Board of Directors of the Somerville Community Corporation since 1998, including two years as its President. He is a co-founder and President of Fair Employment Project, Inc., a non-profit that provides information and assistance to workers. Steve is a 1988 graduate of Stanford University and a 1993 graduate of Harvard Law School. During law school, he worked at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau for two years, first as a student attorney and then as Executive Director. |
