Sarah Downer joined the Center for Health Law & Policy Innovation in 2013, where her projects focus on health and food law. Sarah’s policy work touches on childhood obesity, Type 2 diabetes, community use of municipal buildings and grounds, food system education and reform, the promotion of food as medicine as a core component of healthcare, and issues in Affordable Care Act implementation. Prior to joining the Center for Health Law & Policy Innovation, she worked in the Legal Services Center of Harvard Law School’s Family and Children’s Law Practice Unit. She received her BA from Harvard University in 2004 and her JD from Harvard Law School in 2010. She served from 2009-2013 as a Resident Tutor at Harvard College in the areas of BGLTQ Support, Sexual Assault/Sexual Harassment, and Pre-Law Advising. While in law school, her academic and clinical work focused on global and domestic family law and family violence. She is a licensed to practice law in Massachusetts.
