2012 Undergraduate Summer Internship

The Office of Clinical and Pro Bono Programs (OCP) seeks two full-time undergraduate student interns for Summer 2012.  OCP is an administrative office of Harvard Law School that oversees law school clinical programs and develops student pro bono opportunities. Through work on various administrative projects, summer interns learn about diverse opportunities in public interest law, gain insight into the law school experience, and see higher education administration in action. Summer interns also attend a speaker series where professors, attorneys, law school staff, and other HLS alumni share their experiences and advice with other summer interns at HLS.

Responsibilities

Interns work on many projects that vary depending on experience, but these may include:

  • Reports of student participation in our programs: compiling statistics, creating graphs, charts, PowerPoint presentations
  • Database management of student projects, including data entry and processing paper files
  • Publications for law students about clinical and pro bono opportunities
  • Communication and website management
  • Assisting clinic staff with department-wide projects and initiatives
  • Research of community organizations or and other law school programs
  • Performing general office duties such as answering phones and responding to correspondence
  • Please note: We do not provide direct legal services to clients and interns do not observe or support legal work

Internship Dates

The 10-week internship will begin June 4 and end August 10  (there is some flexibility with start and end dates). The work schedule is 35 hours/week, Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm with a 1 hour unpaid lunch. No evening or weekend work required.  Salary: $12/hour ($420/week).

The internship is open to undergraduate students only. Requirements include

  • Discretion and a sense of good judgment are essential
  • Candidates should be comfortable working independently within a collaborative office and able to manage simultaneous projects with several points of contact
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word are strongly preferred, as is a demonstrated ability to work with databases
  • Knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, and communication tools (websites, blogging) are helpful but not required
