Cross-Registration Instructions for HLS Students

Adding a Cross-Registered Course

Confirm your eligibility to cross-register	2Ls and 3Ls must be registered for at least 8 HLS credits and cross-registered course must convert to 2 HLS credits to meet 10-credit minimum residency requirement. Confirm that course is acceptable for cross-registration	All courses at Harvard, MIT and Fletcher qualify for cross-registration as long as they don't significantly repeat coursework previously done at any other school. JD students who want to cross-register at another school during winter term need prior approval from Julie Barton (jbarton@law.harvard.edu). LLM students need prior approval from Nancy Pinn (npinn@law.harvard.edu) to cross-register during winter term. Complete online cross-registration process	On-line at HU Cross-Registration website. The instructor will receive an email alerting him or her that a student is interested in cross-registering. If the instructor approves the online petition the Host School registrar will enroll the student based on availability. Students are not enrolled in a course until they receive email confirmation from the Host School registrar. Approval from the faculty member is not the same as being enrolled by the Registrar's Office. You must receive confirmation that you are enrolled in the class by the appropriate Registrar's Office before your registration is complete.	Ongoing until petition filing deadline (see below)

Dropping a Cross-Registered or HLS Course

Dropping a cross-registered course	You may drop the course at the host school's Registrar's Office, as long as you are in compliance with all cross-registration deadlines.	Check HLS Cross-Registration Calendar for applicable deadlines. Note that you must comply with the HLS deadline NOT the host school's deadline.	Consult HLS Registrar's Office with questions about deadlines: registrar@law.harvard.edu.
Dropping an HLS course to take a cross-registered course.	Let the Registrar's Office know whether you want to drop an HLS course in place of a cross-registered course. If the HLS course is open, then you may drop without penalty. If the HLS course has a waitlist, then you will receive a WD if you drop it in favor of a cross-registered course.	These policies apply to dropping an HLS course after the HLS add/drop period.	Consult HLS Registrar's Office with questions about deadlines: registrar@law.harvard.edu.
