Cross-Registration Instructions for HLS Students

Adding a Cross-Registered Course

Choose your cross-registered courseCross-registration for HLS students extends to most schools of HU and to MIT and the Fletcher School. Obtain cross-registration petitionOn-line at HU Cross-Registration site. For MIT and Fletcher, print a blank HLS petition, and fill it out by hand.Ongoing until petition filing deadline (see below) 
Complete the petitionUse a separate form for each school. Include all course information on the form. You do not need the HLS Registrar's Office signature.Ongoing until petition filing deadline (see below)Host school's course catalog for course information.
Obtain signature of faculty member teaching the courseSignature indicates that faculty member will allow you into the class. Enrollment in the course is subject to space available and/or to the results of a lottery.Ongoing until petition filing deadline (see below)Host school's faculty directory.

Dropping a Cross-Registered or HLS Course

Dropping a cross-registered courseYou may drop the course at the host school's Registrar's Office, as long as you are in compliance with all cross-registration deadlines.Check HLS Cross-Registration Calendar for applicable deadlines. Note that you must comply with the HLS deadline NOT the host school's deadline.Consult HLS Registrar's Office with questions about deadlines: registrar@law.harvard.edu.
Dropping an HLS course to take a cross-registered course.Let the Registrar's Office know whether you want to drop an HLS course in place of a cross-registered course. If the HLS course is open, then you may drop without penalty. If the HLS course has a waitlist, then you will receive a WD if you drop it in favor of a cross-registered course.These policies apply  to dropping an HLS course after the HLS add/drop period.Consult HLS Registrar's Office with questions about deadlines: registrar@law.harvard.edu.
