This course will examine the rules of evidence, focusing on the Federal Rules of Evidence. We will cover relevance, hearsay and exceptions, exclusion, confrontation, direct and cross examination, character evidence, competence, impeachment, rehabilitation, opinion evidence, scientific proof, privileges, authentication, presumptions, demonstrative evidence and judicial notice. We will consider the rules, how they function in practice, their rationales, and their wisdom. Evidence is a prerequisite for the Trial Advocacy Workshop and can be the basis for certification to practice in conjunction with any of the Law School's clinical offerings.
