***This course has been terminated. It will meet in the Fall Term instead.*** This course will explore the current debates about the relationship between "real" science and forensic science. What is science? What are its premises from Karl Popper to Thomas Kuhn? To what degree are the demands of the court compatible or incompatible with the prerequisites of traditional science? To what degree does scientific evidence contribute to or detract from the truth-seeking function of the courts? What, after all, is the CSI effect? Enrollment in this reading group is by permission of the instructor.
