Rachael Walsh

Hometown: Dublin, Ireland
HLS Class: LL.M. class of 2008

Prior Education: LL.B. 2007, University of Dublin, Trinity College, Ireland

Career goals: I hope to pursue a doctorate in Constitutional Law, focusing on comparative constitutional property law. I also intend to qualify as a barrister and pursue both academia and legal practice in the future.

My undergraduate legal studies sparked a strong interest in constitutional law, and once I decided to develop this interest at the postgraduate level, Harvard Law School was the obvious choice for me. The calibre of the constitutional law faculty and the variety of small group classes in the area made it very easy to create an outstanding program of constitutional studies from Harvard’s course offerings. Socially, I was attracted by the size of Harvard’s LL.M. class, which is small enough to be accessible and not overwhelming, but at the same time large enough to provide the variety of backgrounds, experiences and personalities that create a dynamic that contributes immeasurably to the academic and social life as a graduate student. Finally, Harvard’s location in Cambridge and its proximity to Boston also provided enough excitement and novelty to be interesting and stimulating without being daunting or difficult for a first-time visitor to the U.S.
