Dissertation
Law as Moral Imagination: Crime, Punishment, Cruelty, and Mercy in the Transformation of Law
The dissertation draws extensively from American, comparative, and international criminal law in order to contribute to the understanding of change in law. By identifying and explaining fundamental intellectual aspects of legal evolution, including their impact on bodies of doctrine and forms of argument, the work rectifies classical and contemporary accounts of the nature and development of criminal and, more broadly, modern public law.
