Wired Network Jacks

All faculty offices are equipped with network data jacks that can be used to access the Law School Network and the Internet. The hard-wired network provides high-speed access to the Law School’s file storage, printing services, internal web site (Intranet), e-mail services, and the Internet.

Remote Network Access (VPN)

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is used to allow members of the HLS community to access their files on the Law School's network securely with a broadband or an on-campus wireless connection.

In order to establish a Virtual Private Network connection to the HLS Network, faculty should first install the appropriate VPN Client software on his/her system. Please contact the Faculty-Staff Help Desk to schedule an appointment for installing the VPN software for either a PC or Mac. VPN installers can also be downloaded from the software library.

To login to VPN, faculty should enter his/her email username (including @law) and password.

Home and Shared Network Drives

H:\ or Home Drive

All Law School faculty are given an H:\ drive, also known as a home drive. This drive is used to store work-related private and personal data such as individual performance reviews, VPS Reports, and email back-ups. Because this space is limited, faculty are advised not to store personal, non-work related data such as audio (mp3, mp4), video (wav, avi), or picture files (jpg, gif, bmp, or tiff). Also, this space should not be used to back-up applications or programs as these programs are available at the Faculty/Staff Help Desk. Only the specific faculty member has access to his or her H:\ drive.

Click here for instructions on how to manually map your H: drive on a Macintosh computer or on your home PC.

S:\ or R:\ Shared Drive

Faculty also have access to either an S:\ or R:\ drive used to share HLS related files and folders with others at the Law School. For security reasons, only people who have permission to these shared folders have access to its contents.

Saving Files to the HLS Network

Faculty members that wish to save information to the HLS network should manually move these files to his/her specific home or shared drive. The home drive should be used to back-up personal, work-related files such as VPS reports and performance reviews. Shared drives should contain files that are work related and are needed by others in a department. For questions about how to save to a network drive or where files should be saved, please contact the Faculty-Staff Help Desk.

Connected Backup Solution

In order to provide our faculty with a better data backup solution, ITS purchased a new program called Connected Backup. With Connected, faculty can backup and restore data from any location that has an internet connection.

Advantages of using Connected include:

ITS is happy to provide each faculty member with one free copy of Connected for your primary PC or laptop. ITS will work with you to determine the best computer to install Connected.  Once we do, we will happily configure and install it on the appropriate computer.  If you would like Connected installed on your computer, please contact the Faculty-Staff Help Desk at 5.0722. Connected is only available for the PC, but a Macintosh client is coming soon.
