Mapping or Mounting Your Home Drive (H:\)

Microsoft Windows Operating System

H: (Home Drive) mapping – Please use the following steps to map your H: drive:

  1. Right-click on the My Computer icon and select Map Network Drive…
  2. Select H: for the Drive letter.

    Note: if you have the old H: drive location mapped to the H: drive, you will need to disconnect it. Click here for instructions on disconnecting network drives. Also, if you have a fixed drive such as a DVD or a 2nd hard drive mapped to H:, simply choose another drive letter.

  3. Enter \\HLSUsers.law.harvard.edu\Personal\<username> in the Folder field

    Note: <username> should be replaced with your Harvard Law School username (this is what you would use when you initially log on to your computer)

  4. Reconnect at logon – Select this option if you want this drive to be mapped each time you boot your computer.

    Note: you will not have access to this drive until you connect via Harvard's VPN.

  5. Click Connect using a different user name

  1. On the Connect As window:
    • User name: enter HLS\<username>
      • <username> should be replaced with your Harvard Law School username (this is what you would use when you initially log on to your computer)
    • Password:  enter your password
      • This is the password you use when you initially log on to your compute

  1. Click OK and Finish. The mapped network drive will open.

    Note:  Once mapped, you can also access the share if you double-click on the My Computer icon

Macintosh Operating System

H: (Home Drive) mounting – Please use the following steps to mount your Home drive:

  1. On the Apple menu, click Go > Connect to server
  2. In the Server Address field, enter the following information:

cifs://hlsusers.law.harvard.edu/<username>

Note: <username> should be replaced with your Harvard Law School username

  1. Click the + button to add this server address to the list of your favorite servers.

    Note: If you have the old home server address, cifs://140.247.200.162/Home or cifs://hlsnas1a.law.harvard.edu/Home, listed in your favorites, select it, and click Remove.

  2. Click Connect
  3. Enter the following, then click OK:
    • Workgroup or Domain:  HLS
    • Username: (this is your Harvard Law School domain username)
    • Password: (this is your Harvard Law School domain password)

  1. The window for your Home Drive will open

     Note: A mounted network drive will appear on the desktop
