Antivirus Protection at Harvard Law School

Harvard Law School is committed to providing our students with up-to-date, secure, and reliable virus protection. As part of this commitment, we offer all currently enrolled HLS students a free copy of Symantec AntiVirus (SAV). SAV is a full-featured anti-virus program designed to scan all internal and external drives, as well as all incoming and outgoing emails and attachments.

Below are instructions for installing and configuring SAV. Also, there are instructions on how to schedule SAV to check for the latest virus definitions. This will ensure that SAV is continually updated to protect your computer from the latest virus threats. It is important to note that your computer should only have ONE anti-virus program installed. If you wish to download the free SAV client, please uninstall any anti-virus software you may already have on your machine.

Note: The SAV PC installer was tested in Internet Explorer 6.0 and the Mac installers were tested in Safari. We strongly recommend using Internet Explorer on the PC or Safari on the Mac when downloading SAV.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR MAC USERS: Please note there are two instruction links for SAV installation. The first link is for Single Core machines and the second link is for DualCore machines. The DualCore instructions include information about an expected error message and include instructions for a workaround. Please be sure to open the correct instructions for your machine.
