Bequests

Placing the Law School in your will follows a time-honored tradition begun in 1815, when a School of Law was established at Harvard through a bequest by Issac Royall of Medford. When considering a bequest, you may utilize most of the gift techniques outlined on this website, or simply earmark an outright contribution for the Law School of a fixed amount or a percentage of your estate.

When drafting language for a will or trust, please bear in mind that the corporate name of Harvard is "The President and Fellows of Harvard College." You should then insert the phrase, "for the benefit of the Law School." If you are planning a bequest for a specific purpose, you are invited to consult with the Law School's Planned Giving Office to assure that your objectives can be met.

For examples of bequest language and other information about these important gifts, please see our 2003 "Making a Difference" newsletter.
