Fund Volunteer Roles

Alumni volunteers, such as yourself, are the driving force behind the success of the Harvard Law School Fund.

Thank you for your dedication and support!

Reunion Gift Program

The Reunion Gift Program accounts for approximately two-thirds of the Fund’s dollar total each year. During Reunion Gift drives, alumni volunteers serve on Class Reunion Gift Committees as Chairs, Vice Chairs, and Committee members. Reunion Gift Committees focus attention on personally soliciting major gifts from their classmates, as well as increasing participation in the class. Reunion solicitations, as with all Fund solicitations, encourage unrestricted giving. As Reunion pledges may be paid over three tax years, all alumni in Reunion years are asked to make a substantially increased pledge and/or gift to the Fund in honor of their Reunion. Matching and planned gifts are added to a donor’s personal gift and are included in the class total.

Annual Giving Programs

The Class Agent Program is the Fund’s oldest and largest volunteer program, dating back to the 1950s. Class Agents solicit annual unrestricted gifts from their classmates during non-reunion years, with strong emphasis on participation, by mailing solicitation letters and contacting their prospects by telephone and e-mail. They also remain connected to their classmates by serving as links between their class and the Law School. Representing over 50 classes, 254 Class Agents solicited nearly 3,400 alumni in fiscal year 2006. The Program’s total exceeded $1.44 million, a new record. With an Agent participation rate of 85%, Class Agent volunteers truly lead their classes by example.
