2005-2006 A Record Breaking Year for the Fund

Last year was a truly special year for the Harvard Law School Fund. Thanks to the generosity of almost 9,000 alumni and friends, the Fund raised a record-breaking $8.7 million!

While unrestricted gifts are always extremely important to the Law School, they take on even greater importance during a campaign. The Fund is responsible for raising $40 million, or 10%, of the Setting the Standard Campaign total. Annual gifts help keep the Law School at the cutting edge of legal education and research.

Raising the Bar: The $1 Million Challenge , made possible by the generosity of an anonymous donor, succeeded in attracting new donors and involving recent graduates. It also matched all increased gifts from the Law School’s loyal group of consistent donors. In both cases, the Fund benefited from a substantial growth in unrestricted giving.

Fund Programs and Reunion Gift Campaigns

Approximately 600 alumni volunteered through a myriad of programs and committees including the Fund Advisory Council, Reunion Gift Committees, and the Class Agent Program. The Class Agent Program again celebrated a record year with an unprecedented $1,443,160 through the efforts from 254 Agents, representing more than 50 classes. The program also set a new record in the number of volunteers from members of Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD), signing on 40 alumni in this group. Their involvement ensures that the future of the Fund is in good hands, as they will continue to foster the awareness of the vital need for unrestricted dollars for the School.

Reunion giving and the Langdell Society programs also enjoyed a successful year. Four reunion classes raised more than $1 million, including the Class of 1956 led by W. Loeber Landau; the Class of 1960 led by Frederick A.O. Schwarz, Jr; the Class of 1966 led by Robert H. Craft, Jr.; and the Class of 1971 led by Susan S. Wallach and Jack M. Weiss. Nearly 200 people became members of the Langdell Society and Dean’s Associates with gifts of $10,000 and $25,000 or more. These leadership donors set the pace in unrestricted giving last year.
