At commencement, I thought of you all as we celebrated the talents and hard work of your successors. But I also felt the loss of contact due to the Reunion cancellation. As you know, in April, Cambridge and the greater Boston area experienced unprecedented horror and tragedy. The lockdown of the city and neighboring towns on April 19 as authorities searched for suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings was challenging and cause for great anxiety. Against this background, we made the difficult decision to cancel Spring Reunion.
I am sorry these events prevented us from welcoming alumni and guests back to HLS. We know how much alumni enjoy reconnecting with classmates and being back on campus. We had a terrific program planned for Spring Reunion 2013. And we missed the chance to welcome you back to campus!
We appreciate your understanding our need to cancel. I send thanks to those of you who have so thoughtfully expressed your concern and support. Please know that we share in your disappointment. We are planning to reschedule your class reunion this fall, in conjunction with the Fall Reunion classes. We hope you will save the date: October 25-27, 2013. Your rescheduled class reunion will include an informative and exciting program designed to share the expertise of some of our most outstanding Law School professors and distinguished alumni, while giving you the chance to be reunited with classmates and see changes on campus.
I very much look forward to welcoming you back to HLS in the near future and send warm wishes for a wonderful summer.
With warm regards,
Morgan and Helen Chu Dean and Professor
