Searching Legal Portraits

Items from the Legal Portrait Collection may be viewed through VIA, Harvard University's catalog of art and visual materials. Please note: to access VIA you will leave the Harvard Law School Library Web site. To return to this site use the back button on your Web browser, or bookmark this page.

To search the Legal Portrait Collection in VIA, you may do a search for the person you wish to locate, you may view a complete list of all the portraits, or you may do a keyword search on specific elements of a portrait (such as Lord Chancellor or robes of office).


To search for a person:

· In VIA, enter the name of the person you are looking for under Anywhere (as in the example below)
· Limit the holdings to Harvard Law School Library
· Click Go

 


To view a complete list of cataloged portraits:

· In VIA, enter legal portrait collection under Anywhere (as in the example below)
· Limit the search to the holdings of the Harvard Law School Library
· Click Go

 

Please note: Sorting a results lists larger than 500 records is not possible at this time. The results list therefore defaults to chronological order, beginning with the most recently cataloged item.
