Early Interview Program (EIP) Overview

General Information

Please visit our EIP or FIP comparison page to determine which HLS recruitment programs best suits your organization's recruiting needs.

  • Employers can interview rising 2L and / or 3L students.
  • Interviews take place from August 12 to August 16, 2013 between 9 am and 5:20 pm in Cambridge, MA.
  • Employers can register for either an Interview Schedule or Resume Collection but not both.
    • Interview Schedules - the registration fee is $300. There is a $500 fee for each interview schedule.
    • Resume Collection - the registration fee is $250.
  • You can choose either 20-minute or 30-minute interviews.
    • An interview schedule consisting of 20-minute interviews will accommodate 20 interviews.
    • An interview schedule consisting of 30-minute interviews will accommodate 13 interviews.
  • Interview dates are assigned by OCS in advance of registration and are released on April 1 to employers that complete their registration by March 1.
  • Students choose the employers they would like to interview with through an online bidding system. Interviews are then assigned by lottery. This process is designed to maximize interviewing opportunities for both students and employers.

Student Callbacks

Please note that classes will begin on September 9 for 2Ls and 3Ls.  As you plan for the upcoming recruiting season, we ask that all EIP employers conduct their callback interviews between August 19 and September 6. Consistent with Harvard Law School's Recruitment Policies, employers may not conduct callback interviews during the week of EIP (August 12 - 16).

We ask that employers inviting candidates to visit their offices explain what travel expenses will be reimbursed prior to the visit. Travel expenses include airfare, rental cars, taxis, and food allowance. It is our experience that clarifying these issues prior to the callback period avoids misunderstandings that may arise when reimbursement policies are not explicit.

Harvard Law School Recruitment Policies

All employers participating in EIP will be expected to comply with Harvard Law School’s Recruiting Policies & Guidelines and NALP Timing Guidelines

  • Harvard Law School has a no prescreening policy which means that employers are not permitted to prescreen candidates or ask for transcripts in advance of the interview program.
  • NALP Member Employers must complete the Pro Bono section of the NALP Form by June 1.

If you have any questions, please contact Mark Kleinschnittger, Assistant Director for Recruitment & Operations, at mklein@law.harvard.edu or 617-495-3119.
