The Center for American Progress hosted a mixer where Heyman Summer Interns and Heyman Fellows could meet.

At this luncheon, Heyman summer interns had the opportunity to meet John B. Bellinger III, the Legal Adviser to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Bellinger answered the interns' questions about legal careers at State and engaged with the students in a lively debate over the law surrounding wartime detainees.
This mixer between Heyman Fellows and Summer Heyman Interns was hosted by the Partnership for Public Service. Some of the additional federal guests included The General Counsels for the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Education, as well as the Associate Chief Counsel for the IRS.
The 2005 heyman Summer Interns gathered to compare and discuss their summer experiences over lunch.
The Sixth Annual Dinner in Washington, D.C. welcomed the new 2005 fellows into the program. Over 70 current fellows, alumni, and special guests attended the event, including Dean Kagan and the founder of the program, Sam Heyman. US Senator Jack Reed '82 gave the keynote address, in which he discussed his upbringing and career in public service, and provided an inspiring example for the current and former fellows.

Five of the six Heyman Fellows then working on Capitol Hill were joined by moderator Jim Flug '63, Chief Counsel to Senator Kennedy on the Judiciary Committee, for a dinner with students followed by a panel discussion attended by over 75 students in a standing-room-only crowd. Panelists included: Jeff Baran '01, Counsel to the House Committee on Government Reform; Sharon Kelly '04, Counsel for the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs; Mike McCarthy '03, Counsel to the House Committee on Government Reform; Peg McGlinch '01, Legislative Director for Representative Richard Neal; and Michael Zamore '00, Policy Advisor for Representative Patrick J. Kennedy.

At this dinner and panel discussion, Heyman Fellows Kate Loyd '03, Greg Marchand '00, Sarah Prosser '02, Susanne Sachsman '02, and Leo Wise '04 from, respectively, the Environment and Natural resource Division of DOJ, the Government Accountability Office, the U.S. Department of State, the Tax Division of DOJ, and the Enron Task Force of DOJ, spoke to students about their experiences in federal public service.
