To aid in your job search, OPIA publishes a series of guides that offer advice on all aspects of the career planning process, from beginning to think about your options through the interview and negotiating process and even how to make the most of your experience in the job. Our original guide, Serving the Public: A Job Search Guide, has become the leading national resource in the public advising field. It is in two volumes (please note: these guides are not currently for sale): domestic and international. We offer a series of guides on specialty areas within public interest law, ranging from civil rights and civil liberties law to work in private public interest firms. For established lawyers looking to leave law firm work for a more public interest-oriented career, The Great Firm Escape offers advice and inspiration on making the transition as well as details on the job hunt and networking within the public service community. Alumni/ae in Action is OPIA's window into the work settings of practicing public interest attorneys, offering over seventy personal narratives that detail both triumphant and difficult moments in public service work and the career paths that led there. Outstanding Lawyers in Action (.pdf) also provides a glimpse into the day to day experiences of working lawyers, with descriptions of the work of over 30 public interest attorneys who served as Wasserstein Fellows at HLS. Our Cheap Living Guides offer some advice on how to find affordable housing, neighborhoods to stay in, how to get around and what do for fun around some major cities, both here and abroad. Please note: These cheap living guides are currently being updated. The new guides will be available later in the spring of 2010.
