Resident Assistants

Resident Assistants (R.A.s) are employed for the 9-month academic year by the Dean of Students Office to serve a range of important roles in the HLS residence halls. As liaisons between residents and the Dean of Students Office, R.A.s serve as an extension of the DoS staff. They facilitate a group living experience that fosters mutual respect and strong community standards. They develop and promote social, recreational and academic programs, events and activities for residents. They advise residents both collectively and individually on Harvard Law School resources. They serve as a role model by being good members of the residence life community, complying with University and Law School policies and enthusiastically participating in the life of the community. They orient 1L and LL.M. students to residence life, HLS and Cambridge. In addition, R.A.s are expected, in conjunction with the Dean of Students Office, to deal with emergency situations and to emphasize safety in the halls.
