Biographical Statement

Thomas C. Newman heads the litigation and trial practice group at the law firm of Murray, Plumb & Murray in Portland, Maine. He has tried dozens of jury cases to verdict in federal and state courts across the country. Tom also devotes countless hours to pro bono legal services helping Maine immigrants seeking asylum to keep their families together, gain protection from persecution, and become proud U.S. citizens. Tom has served as a visiting faculty member of the Harvard Trial Advocacy Workshop for more than twenty years. He received his undergraduate degree from Hamilton College and his J.D. from Cornell Law School where he was an editor of the Cornell Law Review. Following law school, Tom clerked for the Hon. T. Emmet Clarie, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut.
