Mr. Coyle will teach a section of First Year Legal Research and Writing in both the Fall Term 2009 and the Spring Term 2010.
John Coyle received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Harvard College in 2000, his M.Phil in European Studies from Cambridge University in 2001, and his J.D. from Yale Law School in 2005, where he was the recipient of The Jewell Prize and the William K.S. Wang Prize. After graduating from law school, John clerked for The Honorable Reena Raggi on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He then worked at the law firm of Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C., where he practiced corporate law from 2006 to 2008. John's research centers on international law, its relationship to U.S. domestic law, and corporate and commercial law. His publications include Rules of Origin as Instruments of Foreign Economic Policy, 29 Yale J. Int'l L. 545 (2004), The Legality of Banking the Undocumented, 22 Geo. Immigr. L.J. 21 (2007), and Incorporative Statutes and the Borrowed Treaty Rule, 50 Va. J. Int'l L (forthcoming).
