Martha Minow

Martha Minow is the Jeremiah Smith, Jr. Professor of Law. She is the author of a number of books including Imagine Coexistence: Restoring Humanity After Violent Ethnic Conflict (co-edited with Antonia Chayes) and the award-winning Between Vengeance and Forgiveness: Facing History After Genocide and Mass Violence. She has been the Research Chair of Imagine Coexistence for the UN High Commission for Refugees, and a Commissioner on the Independent International Commission on Kosovo. Martha serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Facing History and Ourselves, developing teaching materials on human rights and genocide for use in the U.S., Europe, and Africa, and on the Board of Directors of the Iranian Human Rights Documentation Centre. She has offered reading groups at HLS — "International Justice?" and "Rule of Law" — that directly address issues in public international law, especially arising from legal responses to mass atrocity and regulation of war. Martha's research interests include treatment of recent immigrants in Western democracies, especially around where domestic family law and education practices may collide with preferences and practices of new immigrants.
