New LexisNexis ID Policy (August 5, 2005)

In response to security concerns and to reduce opportunities for access to the LexisNexis services by other than authorized users, LexisNexis has implemented several new ID policies that went into effect on June 29th, 2005.

LexisNexis users are no longer able to logon using their LexisNexis IDs. Instead, current users are required to register their 7-character LexisNexis IDs and create new custom IDs and passwords which must then be used to access the LexisNexis services. If you are a current user, you must register your 7-character LexisNexis ID and create a new custom ID and password (be sure to complete the form for a returning not a new student, faculty or staff member):

When registering, please be sure to select a memorable security question and answer. Here are the LexisNexis guidelines for creating a custom ID and password:

For additional information, see LexisNexis Custom ID/Password Instructions (pdf).

New users, including incoming first year law students will receive a 7-digit activation code via the normal ID distribution processes. To create their custom IDs and passwords, they will be given instructions to go to the LexisNexis law school home page, click the Register Your ID link, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Those students, faculty, staff and librarians, who have already created a custom ID and password will not be affected by the above changes. However, they must use their custom IDs and passwords instead of their 7-digit LexisNexis IDs to access the LexisNexis services.

All LexisNexis IDs, including student, faculty, staff and librarian IDs, that had not been used during the 12 months prior to June 29th, were deactivated on June 29th, 2005.

As a further security measure, the HLSL librarians, LexisNexis representatives, and LexisNexis Customer Support will not be able to obtain or view any custom IDs and passwords. LexisNexis users needing assistance with lost or forgotten custom IDs and passwords must use the Forgot Your Password? link on the LexisNexis law school home page.

If you have any questions regarding the new LexisNexis ID policy, please contact the Langdell reference desk, (617) 495-4516, located just off the reading room on the fourth floor of Langdell Hall or call LexisNexis Customer Support at 1-800-455-3947.
