3rd Floor Construction

What's happening?

Beginning June 12 and continuing until school begins in September, much of the third floor of Langdell Hall will be closed due to construction. That area of the library is being renovated to include nine new faculty offices.

What areas are affected?

As noted in the map below, the area closed off for construction includes that part of 3-North from the elevator lobby to just beyond the bathrooms. This means, of course, that, in addition to the first part of the 3N stacks area, the third-floor bathrooms, drinking fountain, copier alcove and lockers will all be inaccessible.

Where are the state materials?

The state materials have been consolidated to the stack area at the far north end of level three. Less used sections of the state collection have been transferred to the Harvard Depository. Consult the holdings record for a particular item to determine if it is on 3 or has been moved to the depository. Materials at the depository can be retrieved within 24-hours.

How can I get to 3-North?

The far north section of level three, formerly housing parts of the state law collection and now holding the entire, newly consolidated, state holdings, cannot be accessed from the third floor. To get to this area, either take the north stair or north elevator down from the Reading Room (level 4) or up from the main entry floor (level 2).
