At the top of the main stairs, you emerge into the Reading Room. The Special Collections areas, the Root Room and the Caspersen Room, can be seen, respectively, at the ends of the left and right views above. The Root Room, sometimes called the Rare Book Room, is the Special Collections reading room. The Caspersen Room houses significant artwork and artifacts and also serves as a venue for exhibitions.
The portrait of Christopher Columbus Langdell, mentioned in the audio narration, can be viewed by clicking here. Translations of the inscriptions encircling the room's ceiling, also mentioned in the narration, can be found here.
The tour continues by walking forward, across the Reading Room, into the Reference Room.
