AMADEUS

AMADEUS is a database of 5.6 million public and private companies in 31 European countries, including much of Eastern Europe. It includes five years of exportable financial statement data as well as basic company and management information. Amadeus can be used to screen for companies by numerous criteria such as geography and industry. Advanced reporting features allow the user to create customized reports for one or more companies. Up to 10 years detailed information, consolidated and unconsolidated financial statements, are provided when available. Bankruptcy Insider

Bankruptcy Insider, a publication of TheDeal.com, provides access to proprietary bankruptcy data, as well as information on financings, rehabilitations, liquidations, and bankruptcy trends. Bankruptcy Insider includes data on debtors-in-possession (DIPs), filings, advisers, investment banks, and M&A bankruptcy. (Harvard University ID and PIN required.)

Bankruptcy Law360

Bankruptcy Law360, a publication of Portfolio Media, Inc., provides coverage of developing stories in bankruptcy litigation, law and policy. Coverage is worldwide and includes information on new Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 filings, Chapter 11 reorganization plans, disputes among debtors-in-possession, creditors, employers, and unions, and profiles of distressed industries and companies. BANKSCOPE

BANKSCOPE provides information on public and private banks throughout the world. Each bank report contains detailed consolidated and/or unconsolidated balance sheet and income statement. Data comes from Fitch Ratings, and 6 other sources. BANKSCOPE also provides: company and country risk ratings and reports, ownership information, and security and price information. Bloomberg Financial Markets provides current and historical financial information on individual equities, stock market indices, fixed-income securities, currencies, commodities and futures for both international and domestic markets. Provides news feeds on worldwide financial markets, as well as audio and video interviews and presentations of key players in business and finance. Business Source Complete (Enhanced Business Searching Interface)

Business Source Complete provides access to financial data, books, monographs, major reference works, book digests, conference proceedings, case studies, investment research reports, industry reports, market research reports, country reports, company profiles and SWOT analyses. Business Source Complete also provides access to articles from over 1,200 business-related academic journals, magazines and trade publications. (Harvard University ID and PIN required.)

CCH Business & Finance Research NetWork

The CCH Business & Finance Research NetWork provides access to CCH federal & state securities; banking including credit regulation and mortgage compliance; capital changes; trade regulation; government contracts; federal & state telecommunications; information technology; federal energy guidelines; transportation; and products liability & safety law products. Access to the CCH Business & Finance Research NetWork is controlled by HLS IP address and is limited to the Harvard Law School community. Off-campus access is controlled by HLS email username and password.

HBS Baker Library Research Insight Guide

Compustat provides financial statement data from a variety of sources including quarterly and annual income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements from publicly traded firms both active and inactive, as well as monthly closing stock prices. The Compustat North America Data on DVD is available at the Langdell Reference Desk. A more extensive archive of Compustat data is available through the WRDS database. In order to read the Compustat North America Data DVD, you must first download and install Standard & Poor's Research Insight software. The latest version of Research Insight along with updates, patches, utilities, installation instructions, user manuals, the Communiqués newsletter and other materials is available at the Compustat Resource Center. Datastream
HBS Baker Library Datastream Guide

Datastream is a comprehensive online historical database service providing global coverage of a broad range of financial entities and instruments. Provides historical, global coverage of equities, stock markets, commodities, futures, currencies, options, and bond markets, company financials, and economic data from national governments, OECD, EIU, IMF, Worldscope, and Morgan Stanley Capital (MSCI). The database is updated daily and historical equity information goes back to 1973. The HBS subscription also includes financial statement data for non-U.S. companies via Worldscope in Datastream. eco5.com

Eco5.com is a research portal to information about finance and economics. Its mission is to provide access to free professional resources. Currently, it links to resources providing market overviews, historical trade data and forecasts, working papers and glossaries, global and regional news, institutions, jobs, university rankings and information, and more.

Global Financial Data

Global Financial Data (GFD) is a comprehensive economic and financial time-series database covering 150 countries and 6,500 different data series. GFD includes data on stock markets from 1690, exchange rates from 1590, interest rates from 1700, commodities from 1500, and inflation from 1264. Users can download data into spreadsheet format or use the graphing features. The GFD Encyclopedia, available on the GFD web site, provides information on the data series in the database, including time period covered, frequency, sources, historical changes that have affected the series, background information, and other explanations about changes in the composition in the indices. Coverage varies by data series and country. (Harvard University ID and PIN required.)

Global Market Information Database

Global Market Information Database, an integrated on-line information system, covers over 350 markets in 207 countries. Information is accessible in four modules: statistics (quantitative data and forecasts on consumer lifestyles, retailing, countries, consumer markets), analysis (in-depth market analysis report format), companies (profiles of leading FMCG companies along with financial data, market share and brand information) and sources (lists data providers by specific subject area.) Statistical data goes back as far as 1977 (but most series start in 1990) and is forecast out to 2015. Reports generally stay in the database for 5 years. (Harvard University ID and PIN required.)

GuideStar Premium

GuideStar Premium offers information about the missions, programs, and finances of more than 1.7 million IRS-recognized organizations, including public charities and private foundations. Federal 990 forms are accessible through this service. Grant activity of both grantmakers and grantees is also available. (Harvard University ID and PIN required.)

ICARUS

ICARUS provides information on U.S. companies from Dun & Bradstreet. An ICARUS report typically contains contact information, details of sales and number of employees, activities (U.S. SIC and NAICS), management and executives, the company’s bank and accountant, shareholders, subsidiaries and news. ISIS

ISIS is a comprehensive database of detailed reports on public and private insurance companies around the world. Information is provided by Fitch Ratings. Includes reports on 4,100 non-life companies, 1,700 life companies and 500 composite companies. Over 100 different countries are covered. Each company report typically contains the following: contact information including website, country and world rankings, ratings, major business lines and geographical markets, income statement and balance sheet that can be viewed in different levels of detail and standardization including “as reported”, ratios (as supplied with the facility to create your own), shareholders, subsidiaries, key personnel, security and price information, weekly and monthly pricing series and news. Mergent/Moody's Corporate Manuals

Mergent/Moody's Corporate Manuals provides access to the full-text of all the Moody's/Mergent Corporate Manuals going back as far as 1909. The series includes Industrial, OTC, OTC Unlisted, Bank & Finance, Public Utilities, Transportation and International manuals. Information for a company may include History, Business, Properties, Subsidiaries, Officers, Directors, Long-term debt, Capital stock, Income statements, Balance sheets, Footnotes, Auditors, General counsel, Exchange and symbol, Number of employees, Number of shareholders, Address, telephone and fax numbers, Shareholder relations contact, Stock price ranges, Dividends, Transfer agents, Stock splits, and the Annual meeting date. MergerArbAlert.com

MergerArbAlert.com provides research on risk arbitrage and details of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions for deals since 1999, including the names of advisers, lawyers, and firms involved in these transactions. MergerArbAlert.com includes access to the current issue and archives of Corporate Control Alert. (Harvard University ID and PIN required.)

Mintel Reports

Mintel provides market and consumer research across multiple International markets and U.S. categories. Each study provides a synthesis of both primary and secondary data and analysis. Coverage: 2001 - present. Reports are removed when superseded. Users are required to agree to academic terms of use and to set up personal accounts using a valid email to begin searching and view reports. Reports must be downloaded chapter by chapter. ORBIS

ORBIS is a global database which has information on 12 million companies. Includes AMADEUS (European companies), BANKSCOPE, ISIS (Insurance Companies), ICARUS (information on U.S. companies from Dun & Bradstreet), JADE (Japanese Companies), OSIRIS (listed companies) and ZEPHYR (M&A). Information on companies from other parts of the world as well as marketing research reports from Data Monitor are included, but not as separate component products. Data from all the components can be retrieved through the ORBIS interface, but the interface for the component databases offer searching and retrieval optimized for the component product. OSIRIS

OSIRIS provides income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement and ratios as well as news, ownership, subsidiaries, ratings (from all the top 3 agencies: 19 ratings are available), earnings estimates, stock data, additional industry codes (Dow Jones Global Indexes) and access to regulatory filings for U.S. companies. OSIRIS includes color annual reports from Global Reports and a link to Edgar Online. SharkRepellent

SharkRepellent is a database of corporate information crucial to takeover defenses of U.S. public companies and encompasses a wealth of materials pertinent to corporate governance research. SharkRepellent.net provides access to thousands of company charters, bylaws and shareholder rights plans (poison pills) and answers to such questions as how the recent IPOs of a corporation have structured its governing board and voting terms or which companies incorporated in a given state have opted out of its takeover law. Once you have reached SharkRepellent.net, access the database by clicking the gray Login button located near the upper left corner of the page. Click the Help link in the upper right corner of the screen for general help and search tips and for a detailed description of SharkRepellent. Access to SharkRepellent is controlled by HLS IP address and is limited to the Harvard Law School community. Off-campus access is controlled by HLS email username and password.

TableBase

TableBase, from Responsive Database Services (RDS), specializes exclusively in tabular data on companies, industries, products and demographics. It allows you to locate information such as market share, company and brand rankings, industry and product forecasts, production and consumption statistics, imports and exports, usage and capacity, number of users/outlets, and trends. TableBase data is culled from more than 1000 publications, privately published statistical annuals, trade associations, government agencies, non-profit research groups, and industry reports prepared by investment research groups. TheDeal.com

TheDeal.com provides news coverage and analysis of mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity, venture capital, initial public offerings (IPOs), and bankruptcy. TheDeal.com includes access to searchable archives, research, and statistics. (Harvard University ID required for access.)
