General Searching Tips
Keyword Searching
Keyword searching can be effective for Harvard Law School Library's holdings because it reaches into some notes, local subject headings, and alternate titles.
Keyword search
- Go to the main HOLLIS search page holliscatalog.harvard.edu
- Click on the "Expanded Search" link
- In the input box, type keywords
For example: Nuremberg trials
Narrow search limits
- Follow the instructions above for a keyword search
- Beneath the input boxes, locate the options for limiting the search by language, library holding the material, format, and date:
For example, limit by repository: Law School
For example, limit by date: 1945-1949
Subject Browsing
Because keyword searching can be overly broad, it sometimes results in large, unmanageable results. One search strategy that can narrow results is browsing Library of Congress subject headings by using links in relevant results.
Using links in relevant records
- Follow the instructions above for a keyword search
For example: Nuremberg trials - Select a record relevant to your topic
For example: Office of United States Chief of Counsel for Prosecution of Axis Criminality. Nazi conspiracy and aggression . 1946 - Click on a linked subject heading
For example: Nuremberg Trial of Major German War Criminals, Nuremberg , Germany, 1945-1946
