Access & Hours

Materials in Special Collections are open to all researchers regardless of academic affiliation. Researchers without a Harvard University ID must check-in at the Law School Library Circulation Desk in order to proceed to Special Collections.

The Root Room, the Special Collections Reading Room, is located on the 4th floor of Langdell Hall. All researchers must have a current registration card on file; registration cards are valid for the fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) in which they are issued. For those researchers without a registration card please be prepared to show a photo ID.

The Special Collections Reading Room is open:

Monday, Wednesday-Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm
Monday, Wednesday-Friday materials will not be retrieved after 4:15

Tuesday 9:00am – 4:00pm
Tuesday materials will not be retrieved after 3:15

All materials must be returned 15 minutes before closing.
