Online Service Forms

Access to the Library

Request Admission to Harvard Law School Library
Use this form to request access to the Harvard Law School Library or to ask a question about visiting the Law Library. Your message will be sent to the Law Library Access/Privileges staff.

Request a Carrel Shelf

Carrel shelf information and application
Carrel shelves are available for registered HLS Visiting Researchers and Visiting Scholars and qualified students who anticipate using a large amount of Law Library materials.

Request Materials

You may request materials checked out to another library user, or materials in the Harvard Depository using the "REQUEST" command on HOLLIS. HOLLIS will then walk you through the additional steps needed to retrieve the item. You will be provided with an anticipated arrival date and a confirmation number. If you are unable to submit your request electronically, you may fill out a paper request form at the Langdell or International Legal Studies Circulation Desk.

If you could not find a book on the shelf that HOLLIS lists as "available," please go to the Langdell or International Legal Studies (ILS) Circulation Desk to fill out a paper search request form.

Inter-Library Loan Forms
Request materials not available on HOLLIS.

On Order Request Form
Request Law Library items found in HOLLIS listed as "On Order." This indicates that this book has not yet been received by the Library. Because the availability of a book on order varies so widely, it is important to put the Date No Longer Needed on the form. An Acquisitions librarian will contact you within two business days.

Ordered-Received or Book in Cataloging Request Form
Request a Law Library item found in HOLLIS listed as either "Ordered-Received," or "Cataloging." This indicates a book received by the Library but not yet processed. It will be "rush cataloged" within two business days and delivered to the Langdell Circulation Desk. You will be contacted as soon as it arrives at Langdell Circulation.

Purchase Request Form

Recommend that the Harvard Law School Library buy a book, journal, or other electronic or non-electronic resource.
