Finding Lists of Drugs
Below are some suggested sources for different types of lists of drugs.
- Drugs@FDA - This database includes approved and tentatively approved prescription, over-the-counter, and discontinued drugs, as well as drug approval letters, labels, and review packages. You can search by name from this page, or select "advanced search" and search by application number, date, and other fields.
- Food, Drug and Cosmetics Law Reporter [KF 3866.5 .C65 1975], and the electronic version (Non-commercial use only; Harvard ID and pin required.) After clicking on the link above, click on "CCH Health and Human Services Research Network," then on "Enter" and then click on the "Food and Drug" tab. - Once in the "Food and Drug" tab, select "Index to Substances " by either clicking on it (to browse by date) or checking the box (to search). This will return paragraph numbers indicating where to find the drug in the Food, Drug and Cosmetics Law Reporter (in print or by citation in the online version).
- Electronic Orange Book Approved Drug Products with Therapeutic Equivalence Evaluations - This list identifies drug products approved on the basis of safety and effectiveness by FDA under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Users can search by active ingredient, applicant holder, proprietary name, application number, or by patent.
- PhRMA New Medicines in Development - The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) represents the country’s leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies. This site allows users to search for new medicines under development, or browse by type of medication (such as cancer, HIV/AIDS).
