Harvard Law School's Program on International Financial Systems will host a panel discussion with senior government and industry officials to address the effect of regulations on the capital markets. "The Current State of Regulation of the Capital Markets: Too Much, Too Little or Just Right?" will take place on March 7 in Ames Courtroom from 2 - 5 p.m. A reception will begin at 5 p.m. following the discussion.

"After almost three years since the passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, we are holding this panel discussion to explore the effectiveness of legislation, regulation and enforcement actions to address the perceived ills of Enron and other scandals in the corporate and financial communities," said Hal S. Scott, Nomura Professor and director of the Program on International Financial Systems. "We hope that the discussion will stimulate a new awareness about how to approach the existing capital markets regulatory environment."

The panel discussion will be moderated by Professor Scott. Dean Elena Kagan will extend a welcome greeting, followed by opening remarks offered by Vickie A. Tillman, Standard & Poor's executive vice president.
