- Running on a promise to improve relations with mainland China, former Taipei mayor and Harvard Law graduate Ma Ying-jeou S.J.D. '81 was elected president of Taiwan this weekend. Ma, the Nationalist Party (or Kuomingtang) candidate, defeated Frank Hsieh of the Democratic Progressive Party 58 percent to 42 percent. [Mon, 24 Mar 2008]

- Harvard Law School launches new Public Service Initiative
- In a move that will further strengthen its commitment to public service, Harvard Law School is announcing that it will pay the third year of tuition for all future students who commit to work in public service for five years following graduation.
