While no HLS grad made it to the finals of the recent Harvard University presidential search, three alumni have attained the top title at other universities. During the summer, Lawrence Bacow '76 became president of Tufts University, and Edwin Colodny '51 became acting and interim president at the University of Vermont; and John Sexton '78 ('79) will move from the dean's office of New York University School of Law to the university president's office in May 2002. The three appointments were announced in the spring.
Bacow had served as MIT's chancellor for the past three years and held an endowed professorship in environmental studies. He previously chaired the MIT faculty. Colodny, former president and CEO of US Airways, had served as of counsel to Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker in Washington, D.C. Sexton, the Benjamin Butler Professor of Law at NYU, joined the law school faculty in 1981, received tenure in 1984, and was named dean in 1988.
