Consensus Builder Becomes Chancellor at MIT Lawrence Bacow 76 As the Massachusetts Institute of Technologys new chancellor a recently resurrected post with a new set of responsibilities Lawrence Bacow 76 has already begun to tackle a major task forces recommendations on undergraduate life and education. His appointment is for an "indefinite" period of time: "I serve at the pleasure of the president," he says. In the coming years, Bacow will also help to address almost every conceivable issue facing a leading university, from which research initiatives to support to what sorts of national, international, and corporate partnerships to develop. A former member of the Law Schools program on negotiation, Bacow expects to enjoy endless opportunities to apply his consensus-building skills. Thats nothing new for the author of Environmental Dispute Resolution, whoboth in conjunction with and in addition to his job as chancellorwill remain active in his field.
