Audio/Slideshow: Report from Urso Branco

Clara Long ’11, Fernando Delgado ’08, and James Cavallaro (executive director of Harvard Law School’s Human Rights Program) spent two days in September investigating human rights violations at Urso Branco prison in Brazil. They were assisted by clinical student Alexia De Vincentis ’10, who did legal research off-site.

Their investigation was in preparation for an international court hearing to consider whether to lift "provisional measures" imposed after violent incidents at the prison in '02 and '04. These measures require periodic reporting from Brazil’s federal, state, and prison authorities, and from the NGOs and human rights attorneys who represent the inmates.

Here, in a cell phone call from the region, Long discusses their work.
