The Program on International Financial Systems is pleased to announce the inception of the Brazil-U.S. version of our Symposium series. Co-organized by PIFS and Fundação Getulio Vargas Law School in Rio de Janeiro (DIRETO RIO), this inaugural event will gather 120 senior financial leaders, high-ranking government officials, and distinguished academics from the United States and Brazil for intensive, off-the-record dialogues on issues affecting international capital markets.
Off-the-record and closed to the media, the invitation-only Symposium will take place in Rio de Janeiro from December 7-9, 2012. The cornerstone of PIFS Symposia is the candid dialogue that transpires between colleagues and counterparts at each Symposium. Discussions occur both in facilitated, small group sessions, as well as plenary sessions and less formal receptions at meals. Keynote addresses and panel discussions punctuate and enhance the interactive dialogue, which is conducted under Chatham House Rules in order to foster an open exchange of ideas.
The major themes are captured and presented on the final day of the Symposium in a plenary session, and then summarized and published in a final Symposium report that is recorded free of attribution and distributed to participants. At the conclusion of each Symposium, participants leave with an enhanced sense of the key capital markets and financial and regulatory issues affecting market practitioners and policy makers. The Symposium offers a unique and valuable platform for informed discussion and exchange of ideas on key issues relating to capital markets, regulation, and international financial systems.
