A partner in the Corporate Department, Toby S. Myerson serves as co-head of the firm's Mergers and Acquisitions Group and practices in the areas of mergers and acquisitions of public and private companies, leveraged buyouts, corporate governance and advice to boards of directors.
For the last 35 years, Mr. Myerson has advised corporations, financial institutions and investment banks on some of the largest and most high profile merger and acquisition transactions of the day. A few of Mr. Myerson’s numerous corporate clients include Citigroup Inc., The Chubb Corporation, British Telecommunications plc, Abitibi-Consolidated, the Agnelli Group companies, Sumitomo Corporation, The Talbots, Inc. and NEC Corporation; and investment banks such as Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Lazard Frères, Perella Weinberg Partners, Rothschilds, and others on their M&A matters.
During 1989 and 1990, Mr. Myerson left the firm to assume the position of Managing Director of the international investment banking firm, Wasserstein Perella & Co., where he resided in Tokyo and directed the bank's Japanese and Asian operations. He returned to Paul, Weiss as a partner at the end of 1990.
During his legal career, Mr. Myerson has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Harvard Law School, Yale Law School, and the Boalt Hall School of Law (University of California, Berkeley). He has served as chair of the Committee on Foreign and Comparative Law of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and is a frequent speaker on topics ranging from contested takeovers to corporate governance. Mr. Myerson is a member of the advisory board of the Harvard Law School Program on Corporate Governance, a member of the board of directors of Japan Society Inc., a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and he participates in the World Economic Forum; and he serves on the Lawyers Committee for the New York Public Library and other civic committees. Mr. Myerson is recognized as one of the leading Corporate/M&A lawyers in the United States by Legal 500 and by Chambers USA was recently chosen by his peers for The Best Lawyers in America 2011 in banking, corporate law and mergers and acquisitions law.
