Before being recruited by Harvard in 1989, Elaine
Bernard was the Director of Labour Programs at Simon Fraser University,
Burnaby, British Columbia. Bernard has a B.A. from The University of
Alberta, a M.A. from University of British Columbia, and a Ph.D. from
Simon Fraser University. She is author of Technological Change and Skills
Development (Deakin University Press, Australia, 1991), The Long Distance
Feeling: A History of the Telecommunications Workers Union,(New Star
Books, Vancouver, 1982) and numerous articles on labor and the role
of unions in promoting civil society, and democracy.
